Radhika Thilak, that Gentle Sweetness, is gone much before her time Radhika Thilak

Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of this beautiful singer who was liked by everyone who met her or heard her songs! She was only 45 when she succumbed to her illness at a hospital in Kochi on Sunday 20 September, around 8:00PM(IST)!

Kaithappoo manamenthe Chanchalaakshi ... (Sneham,1998) will be the song that comes to everyone's lips when we think of this beautiful, gentle singer! Her voice has that magnetic quality that hooks listeners and she always looked so serenely beautiful with a voice to match!

My favourites of Radhika: Manjakkiliyude.. fron Kanmadam, Ente ulludukkum kotty.. (Deepasthambham Mahaashcaryam) Arunakirana Deepam and Deva sangeetham (Guru), Maya Manchalil (Ottayal Pattalam), Kaithapoo Manamenthe (Sneham), to name a few from around 70 of her film songs; she has sung many light songs and she was also a great presence on the Radio station 'Akashavani' and Doordarshan. Her sage shows were spectacular and the one with Yesudas when they sung Puthan Valakkare from Chemmeen is legendary!

I remember what my friend told me years ago after she she attended a concert in Dubai, where Radhika Thilak was on stage with Yesudas: "Radhika Thilak is a great singer in her own right and made her mark even in the presence of Yesudas..."! I didn't know Radhika then, but admired her singing ever since! Radhika Thilak's gentle sweetness will always stay with us along with her beautiful songs! My thoughts and prayers are with her family, especially her daughter Devika. May her soul rest in peace!
