Thiruvananthapuram: The State-run BSNL plans to set up 68 more Wi-Fi hotspots across Kerala to provide seamless Internet connectivity.
In the capital city, new Wi-Fi hotspots will be launched at the Museum, Kanakakunnu Palace, Thampanoor KSRTC terminal, and at the international airport, BSNL Chief general manager L. Anantharaman informed.
The Wi-Fi service will be free for 15 minutes. Subscription plans will be made available once the free usage limit gets exhausted. At present, there are 19 BSNL Wi-Fi hotspots in the state.
The country’s largest state-owned telecommunications service provider has also announced several schemes to improve its customer base.
It includes the Rs 375 landline plan with 250 free calls. Calls can be made to both landlines and mobile phones across any network in the country. The charges for calls made exceeding the usage limit would be metered at a slab rate ranging between 60 paise and Re 1.
At present, BSNL’s landline plans offer unlimited free calling to its network only.
Installation charges for new connections booked under landline and broadband would be waived from January 31, the official said.
New landline and broadband customers can reach out to BSNL through the newly launched toll-free number, 1993.
The company has revised its schemes as part of efforts to upgrade landline broadband speed. The limit of the existing bandwidth of the BBG Rural Combo UL650 will be revised from 1 GB to 5 GB for a minimum speed of 2 Mbps.
The 80 per cent discount on call rates offered to new customers, including those who are porting in fresh, has been extended to pre-paid plans of STV 42 (second billing) and STV 88 (minute billing). Under the STV 88 plan, the STD and local calls to the BSNL network would be charged only 10 paise per minute while calls to any other network will cost 30 paise a minute. The revised rates for the STV 42 scheme are, 1 paise per three seconds and 2 paise per three seconds, to calls to BSNL and other networks, respectively.
The new rates came into effect on January 16.
