KVPY fellowship for science students: Apply by Aug 25

Applications for the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) fellowship should be submitted within August 25. The programme of fellowship in basic sciences for students interested in research studies was launched by the Union Department of Science and Technology. The website link http://kvpy.iisc.ac.in/

The exam fee of Rs 1250 should be remitted online. For candidates in the SC/ST and differently-abled categories, the fee is Rs 625. No interview this time on account of the pandemic. 

Science undergraduate courses - BSc/BS/BStat/BMath/Integrated  MSc/Integrated MS.

Subjects: Chemistry, physics, maths, statistics, biochemistry, microbiology, cell biology, ecology, molecular biology, botany, zoology, physiology, biotechnology, neurosciences, bioinformatics, marine biology, geology, human biology, genetics, biomedical sciences, applied physics, material science, environmental science, geophysics.

Stream SA: Students, who have cleared class X exam and enrolled for class XI with science subjects during the academic year 2021-22, can write the aptitude test. Only when the students join for one of the above-mentioned courses in 2023-24, will they start receiving the fellowship. They have to secure 60 per cent marks in science subjects in class 12 exam. Students in the SC/ST and differently abled categories should secure 50 per cent marks. During the interim period, the students will be invited for science camps and the expenses will be met by KVPY.

Stream SX: Students enrolled in class XII with science subjects during 2021–22 and aspiring to join undergraduate programme in basic science during the academic year 2022–23. Students should have secured 60 per cent marks in class XII exam. And 50 per cent for students in SC/ST and differently-abled categories.

Stream SB: Students who have passed class XII and enrolled for BSc. The fellowship will be given only after securing 60 per cent marks for the first-year final exam. And 50 per cent for students in SC/ST and differently-abled categories.

Fellowship: For the first three years of undergraduate studies, monthly fellowship - Rs 5000 and annual contingent grant - Rs 20,000. For the next two years (Masters): Monthly fellowship Rs 7000 and annual contingent grant: Rs 28,000

The fellowship is for Indian students to study in India. But as per a court order, those in the OCI/PIO categories can also write the exam.

Students in professional streams such as engineering, medical, and agriculture cannot join for this scheme. No fellowship for long-distance studies either. 

Selection process

Applicants will be invited for the aptitude test to be held at various centres on November 7, 2021. In Kerala, students can appear for the exam in all districts, except Wayanad.
