Thiruvananthapuram: All the 1,409 vacancies of school teachers identified after the staff fixation conducted last year belong to government schools, according to official data. In fact, there is not even a single vacancy in aided schools. Moreover, there are 54 excess teachers in aided schools.

In the aided sector, while 2,942 posts were created, there are still 2,998 teachers to be accommodated. These teachers had lost their posts following the staff fixation carried out in previous years.

Incidentally, regularisation of teachers is taking place this year based on the number of students in the previous academic year. However, it is pointed out that this process was unscientific, as the student strength this year would be different from last year.

Staff fixation for school teachers had not been carried out in Kerala for two years before it was taken up last year. However, the delay in the procedures has caused much confusion. On the sixth day of the current academic year, a headcount of the students also took place in schools. However, the authorities have not published the details of this exercise.
