Thiruvananthapuram: The aided school managements in Kerala are unhappy with the State Government over the schedule drawn up by the latter to fill teaching and non-teaching vacancies reserved for the differently abled.
However, as many as 2,520 managements have submitted the roster register on the vacancies available for implementing the reservation to differently abled in recruitments to aided schools in Kerala.
Along with the roster register, these schools have furnished details of their applications to employment exchanges, seeking the list of eligible candidates. Following this, the State Government has accorded temporary approval for 2,726 recruitments made by the managements since 2018.
Education Minister V Sivankutty has requested the remaining managements to cooperate with the General Education Department in filling up the vacancies reserved for differently abled.
According to him, the Government will accord temporary approval to recruitments carried out in schools by the respective managements as soon as they submit the roaster and application to the employment exchange. In case of delay, the managements can approach the minister’s office directly.
Holding that the reservation for differently abled will be completed within August 15, the minister said all other recruitments since 2018 will be accorded approval only after its implementation.
Why schools resist
A High Court order had sought to implement the reservation for differently abled in aided-schools by filling 3 percent of the vacancies reported between February 7, 1996, and April 18, 2017, and 4 percent of vacancies available from April 19, 2017 onwards with retrospective effect.
The schools under a majority of the managements in the state, however, are yet to cooperate with the government proceedings. Their objection pertains to the implementation of reservation for differently abled with retrospective effect in teaching and non-teaching staff appointments first, upon reporting of the vacancies.
They demand the State Government to proceed with its implementation only after the set of petitions under consideration of the High Court on the subject are disposed of.
