'Mounaksharangal’ features deaf-mutes

Kozhikode: The filming of ‘Mounaksharangal’, a movie in which 75 children, who are deaf and mute, essay all the significant roles, is progressing. The movie is helmed by Devadas Kallurutty, who made ‘Aksharangalkkapurathu’, a popular short film which projected the message against drugs for the Student Police Cadet Project.

From VS Asif and KM Sreelakshmi, who play the lead roles, to other artistes who essay minor roles, all the actors in this movie are deaf and mute. The actors lip sync according to the dialogues, and later dubbing artists would record it at the studio.

Hassena Mayanadu, a sign language trainer, has been hired by the crew to explain the director’s instructions to the actors. She would give the necessary instructions in the sign language to the actors, by standing near the camera. The actors would notice them and act accordingly.

There are four songs in this musically significant film. Shreya Jayadeep, Biju Narayanan, Sindhu Premkumar and Jyothi Krishna have beautifully rendered the songs in ‘Mounaksharangal’.

Salam Veeroli has composed the music of the movie which is produced by Ramesh Mavoor. Rajeev Kouthukam wields the camera.

A soulful story

The movie’s assistant director Babeesh too has a painful yet unique story to tell. He has been paralysed from waist below from childhood itself after a palm tree fell on him while he was going to the school. Babeesh is carried on a chair to the sets of the movie.
