Actress Priyanka Chopra’s maternal grandmother Mary John passed away last Friday and the funeral was held at St. Thomas Jacobinte church, Ponkunnam, Kottayam.
Priyanka Chopra and brother Sidharth Chopra, along with other close relatives, attended the ceremony. Mary John is Priyanka Chopra's mom Madhu Ashok Chopra's mother. The actress's grandmother is a member of Kumarakom Kavallapara family.
Mary John had earlier expressed her desire to be buried at her native place. Mary John was the wife of Dr. M K Akhauri, who was Bihar's MLC.
Priyanka also Instagrammed an old picture of herself as a little girl, her grandmother and father Ashok Chopra last week:
Priyanka said in a statement on Friday: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved grandmother, freedom fighter, social activist, MLA, amongst other things. She was an amazing woman who lived a full life, filled with purpose and love."
"Those whom we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day," Priyanka added.
