For Rajamani, music was inherited. His grandfather was a musician in the Travancore palace and his father, Chidambaranath, was a music director. His father was a violinist with Thiruvithamcore Radio and his mother Tulasi was an employee with Akasavani.
Rajamani was born in 1956 at Kozhikode and spent his childhood there. Rajamani followed his father's footsteps after being initiated into the world of music.

At the age of 12, he started learning music from his father. He started training in Western music when he was in 11th. After going to the Gulf for some time, he came back to train under Johnson master. He started off on his own by scoring the background music for two films in Tamil and then started directing music.
Even though he had good knowledge in Carnatic music, he was attracted to background scores and went to become a top professional. He was even known as 'background Rajamani.' He was busy in Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
He also shined in conducting music. After entrusting his lineage to his son, Achu, Rajamani has bid goodbye to the world of music.
