A song that has all of a sudden caught everyone's attention is 'Pookkal panineer pookkal' from the yet to be released film of director Abrid Shine, of 1983 fame, Action Hero Biju.
Why? Reason one is the legendary combination of K.J. Yesudas and Vani Jayaram. The yesteryear magic-makers who have made countless memorable songs both in Malayalam as well as Tamizh have come together yet again to render this piece.
Reason two is the utter lack of chaos in the song that glides smoothly with fewer instruments, recalling an age and era that belonged to the dreamers. The lyrics are simple, composition is easy on the ears; the song has incorporated the sounds of the flute, tabla, bass guitar along with drums and guitar. For a song that has capitalised on the vocals of the lead singers, the instrumentals ably support them without overwhelming the lyrics.
'Pookkal panineer' is a lovely call, a reverting back to beautiful days that have passed us by.
