Happy musical weekend folks. Here goes this week's top 5 song recommendations via Tunes Weekly.
♫ Thira Thira (Mud Maza)
If you have not heard this song yet, you are missing out on a lot of fun. I chanced upon this track and found myself smiling throughout. The catchy guitar portion in the beginning got me glued to the song and as soon as singer Joyce Surendran, started with the vocals, you know it is quality music. Her playful rendition works big time for this song in the little-known children's movie Mud Maza, which released in August. The arrangement is top-notch and so is the clever layering of chorus along with the guitars and percussion. After playing it a couple of times, I looked for the composer's name – Mohan Sithara it is! 'Thira Thira' is a must checkout.
♫ Payye Veesum (Aanandam)
Sachin Warrier has packed some lovely music in Aanandam, his composing debut in Malayalam movies. To render 'Payye Veesum', the best track of the album, Sachin picked Ashwin Gopakumar, lead singer of 'When Chai Met Toast', and his sister Sneha Warrier. The combo works brilliantly for the contrast in the singers' voices – Sneha's voice is a bit raw compared to Ashwin's soothing vocals. The composer adds quality doses of flute (Rajesh Cherthala) and sitar (Paulson) in the loops. 'Payye Veesum' is a marvelous melody.
♫ Senjitaley (Remo)
Anirudh did not have any other release before Remo in 2016 and he makes the wait worth it. The album is highly enjoyable, on par with his last year hit Naanum Rowdydhaan. The composer sings the wooing track 'Senjitaley' himself and flawlessly too. It sounds like he has applied low bass to the track. Vignesh Shivn's lyrics are quirky and Anirudh charming tune and arrangement makes highly appealing.
♫ Kallu Moosi (Majnu)
Gopi Sunder is having a gala time in the Telugu film industry and is one of the most sought after composers there. He did three songs for Premam remake, but before that, he did Majnu,a soundtrack thoroughly entertaining. 'Kallu Moosi' is energetic, has a breezy melody running through and is supplied aptly with Gopi's musical elements. The saxophone (by Gopi Sunder's regular musician Josy, we presume) is a great blend-in. And it's a pleasure to have singer Suchit Suresan on the mic.
♫ Thoppil Joppan (Thoppil Joppan)
We heard a bit of the title track in the Mammootty movie's teaser and it was mighty catchy. And the full song turns out to be the best track of the Thoppil Joppan album, composer Vidyasagar's latest work in Malayalam. Bruce Lee's (oh yes!) electric guitar powers the track and Niranj Suresh packs it with oomph in his rendering. The drums and percussion are fab. Vidyasagar makes things interesting with Trimurthy's nadaswaram and shines full on with the punchy ithaanu kaavya nayakan... Niranj screams it out to end the title track on a high.
♦ Bonus track
How would it be to listen to a Hawaiian lap guitar version of G. Devarajan-Vayalar Ramavarma Malayalam classic 'Kaattadichu'? Saifudeen Mohamad Ali has even got the 'sangatis' on strings perfectly.
