Tunes Weekly

Here's wishing all of you a happy Monday and a great week ahead. There's plenty of music around and Tunes Weekly could not listen to all of them. From what we've heard, we have picked 5 songs for you:

♫ Minni Chinnum (Kolumittayi) ♫

Sreeraj Sahajan makes a promising debut as composer in Kolumittayi, another Malayalam film that revolves around children. The soothing melody that 'Minni Chinnum' is, has been beautifully sung by him. He has also wonderfully exploited flautist Rajesh Cherthala's skills in this marvelous melody. Sweet job Sreeraj.

Tunes Weekly is also glad to note that several Malayalam films are now coming up with children as the central characters.

♫ Ei Suzhali (Kodi) ♫

With Kabali, music director Santhosh Narayanan has upped his game majorly and is now in charge of several A-list actors in Tamil. In Dhanush's Kodi, the composer has tuned 5 songs and 'Ei Suzhali' is the best track. The track is nothing flashy but a neat mix of folk and new-age sounds strewn over. Vijaynarain renders the song in his inimitable style.

♫ Texas Pogiraen (Chennai 2 Singapore) ♫

On YouTube, the audio of this song starts with this two warnings: 1. This song is not for the faint-hearted. Listen at your own discretion. 2. Unleashing Narrow Smith into this world. We are not responsible for his vocal chords or your ear drums.

That sounds like a must try-out song, right? The soundtrack, composed by Ghibran (the makers call it a Ghibran atrocity!), released a month ago. The movie has not been released yet, and hence, we're adding it here. Don't want to write more about it, experience 'Narrow Smith' yourself. We warn you: You might get addicted to this one.

♫ Pesayum Esaya (Ul Kuthu) ♫

This one, a lovely Tamil melody, too was released a while ago. Young composer Justin Prabhakaran employs the sweet vocals of Vandana Srinivasan, an apt choice for the track. A breezy layer of saxophone adds to the charm of the song. With 'Pesayum Esaya', Justin proves again that he is one of the composers to watch out for.

Neene/Neeye/Neeve (Musical dance video) ♫

You'll love this one, no doubts. Sparsha RK, the woman voice of this brilliant song, sounds very much like K.S. Chithra in the beginning. The portion when the male vocals (Yazin Nizar) begins, accompanied with dubstep, changes the game altogether – a stupendous composition by musician Phani Kalyan. Yazin and Sparsha are spotless with their singing. The choreography is delightfully done by the dancers - Shreya Deshpande and Niranjan Harish. The song has 3 versions – Kannada, Tamil and Telugu. You're welcome :)

♫ Bonus tracks ♫

What if Sia's massive hit of the year 'Cheap Thrills', which has an easily catchy Indian sound, is fully developed into a classical concert number? We are also tagging along a tabla version – both are immensely entertaining. Have fun.
