However, they should ensure that the stone is favourable for them after having the horoscope checked. Who can wear
The precious stone gets its name owing to similarities with the colour and shape of a cat’s eye and is worn primarily to reduce the evil effects of the heavenly body ‘Ketu’. As per the horoscope, Ketu would be ascendant for seven years and cat’s eye can be worn during this period.
In addition, people whose number according to astrology matches that of Ketu, which is 7, can use cat’s eye. Moreover, if your birthday falls on 7, 16 or 25 of a month, the gemstone is ideal.
Others for whom cat’s eye is suitable are people whose star signs are Aswathy, Makam or Moolam.
Who cannot wear
If you have ‘Kala sarpa dosham’ (curse of the serpent) according to the horoscope, avoid the cat’s eye in case Rahu and Ketu are in the ‘rasis’ of 6, 8, 12 or 3.
Also ensure that cat’s eye is not worn along with Hessonite garnet stone on the same ring to counter the effects of Kala sarpa dosham as it may attract bad events. If you are faced with this curse, choose other gemstones after proper astrological consultations. One solution suggested is wearing the ‘navaratna’ ring (a ring having all the nine precious stones).
Benefits of the gemstone
It believed that wearing cat’s eye brings numerous benefits. Among them is removal of the bad effects of ‘karma’ in previous births, troubles created by the ‘evil eye’, difficulties caused by curses and disadvantages cast by ancestors.
The gemstone gives new ideas and helps find the necessary knowledge to create wealth. It is considered to boost the prospects of researchers and get their studies accepted. Candidates taking exams too can expect success by wearing the stone. It has also been found that cat’s eye is highly beneficial to owners and staff of advertising agencies.
However, people born during the ‘lagnas’ Karkidakam, Medam, Chingam and Vrischikam should not wear the gem.
Cat’s eye is a very expensive gemstone and can be replaced with stones which are less costly like tiger eye and turquoise which offer similar advantages.
In Kerala, high quality natural cat’s eye is found on the river banks and nearby areas from Kottarakkara to Parassala, especially at Venjarammoodu and Nedumangad. However, commercial mining of the stone has not been possible.
Another peculiarity of cat’s eye is that a phenomenon of light termed Cymophane effect is present in it.
How to wear the gem
The perfect method to wear cat’s eye is as a ring on the ring finger for one hour after sunrise on Tuesdays. In case you live abroad, wear it for one hour after sunrise local time.
Cat’s eye can be used during this time period on the days when the stars Aswathy, Makam and Moolam are ascendant. Prayers can be offered to the gemstone at temples dedicated to Lord Ganapathy or Goddess Chamundy before wearing it. However, people following all faiths can wear cat’s eye.
