While it’s true that Kerala’s winter tide is pretty warm, every slight dip in the temperature will show up on the skin of a native, says Amika Pillai, celebrity hair stylist and beauty expert. “If you find your skin flaking off from your hands and legs or if you find your lips chapped and dry, realize that the same is happening on your scalp too. Your scalp is very well an extension of your skin,” she says.
Exfoliate your skin
“You need to protect your skin, not just in winter but all along the year. To keep your skin intact during weather swings, use an oil based exfoliant,” says the expert. Oil based exfoliants will suit most of the skin types during this season but if your skin is excessively oily even in this weather, avoid using it – she adds.
Hot oil massages
This is the season of dandruff. You need to keep your scalp moisturized in order to avoid dry dandruff. Go for hot oil massage at least once a week. It can keep the skin of both your scalp and face healthy. If you have pimples on your face, expect the same on your scalp. It's all the same thing, Ambika Pillai says.
Keep yourself moisturized and hydrated
“Kerala never has a proper winter when compared to Delhi. Out there in the north, where temperature peaks to 45 and 48 degrees, people keep themselves hydrated by drinking loads of water and keeping their skin moisturized,” Pillai says.
“It's dry heat out there. You seldom sweat. Your skin could go crazy and damaged in such a weather. To protect it from excessive heat, you need to keep yourselves hydrated. You need to drink plenty of water even if you aren't sweating. It helps keep your skin soft and hair glowing,” she adds.
“This is a time when you need to exfoliate your skin more than you do during the humid months. You just need to know your land and climate for protecting your hair and skin accordingly,” the beauty expert concluded.
