Black dresses are what celebrities seem to be taking to lately. At the South India Filmfare Award Night 2016 in Hyderabad Convention Centre a few days back, celebrities irrespective of age scintillated in the limelight clad in the mesmerism of black. Thirty six year old Jyothika who received the award from her husband Surya (who described her as ‘my pondatti’) stole the audience’s minds in a black Indo-western lehenga.
A pair of brass Ramlila earrings, metal choker reminiscent of the traditional mangalsutra and brass box clutch were her accessories. The choker was the only accessory for the colorless high neck top with three-fourth plain sleeves. The netted skirt had a broad sequenced border. Jo wanted to apply minimum make-up so as the draw the attention entirely to the dress. A large red bindi, the trademark of Tamilian wives, adorned her face. A pot of gold, as the saying goes, needs just a dot!
Nayantara’s costume was a simple, black knee-length frock of ‘mint blush’ brand. Concerns were raised about Nayans’s frock as casuals are not usually worn to the awards night. But there wasn't a difference of opinion about the sleeveless princess cut gown suiting the size-zero beauty. She had transformed to a little ‘rowdy’ look, not sure if it was because she had won the award for a Tamil film called ‘Naanum Rowdy Thaan.’ Her make-up was dark on the hands and legs and white blush on the face. The hand, neck, forehead and ears were left bare. As for the fingers, a triangle shaped ring designed by Suhani Pitti decked it. Blue-black half shoes adorned the feet. Our Thiruvalla girl must be quite insistent on being unpredictable!
Anushka Shetty made her entry clad in traditional costumes matching her role in ‘Rudramadevi.’ Golden cut work on a black silk saree teamed with a three-fourth sleeve blouse in contrast to the blue and silk necklace strung with a diamond pendant. It seemed Anushka’s sizzling skin alone was not ready to wear black.
Even though we figuratively call the visual ecstasy that black brings about in the onlooker as ‘black magic,’ the arrival of Malayalam film's Parvathy was indeed resembling a sorceress, clad head to foot in black and glitter. The frock was made out of black net with silver sequence. Her natural curly hair that needed no perming. She also wore a pair of the high heeled black boots. She also had a lip-shaped cherry red clutch wallet to carry along as a signature. In short, her award night look was also freaking and stylist like Tessa in Charlie.
The list of black clad attendees to the award night does not end here. Emy Jackson, Catherine Treesa and our olden days heart throb Jayapradha too dazzled in head to toe black colored dresses.
