Not so long ago, workout clothes were meant for the gym. Wearing them to work, brunch or a coffee date was hardly fashionable. In fact, it was pretty sloppy to do so. All that has changed now. Welcome to the age of athleisure. It is now trendy to wear workout clothes every day, even to work. The fact is, though sneakers and leggings are great for exercise, they look equally awesome when you are totally sweat free.
So what exactly is athleisure? It is the latest fashion trend where expensive workout clothing becomes such a wardrobe staple that instead of restricting your active.
Here are 7 way to break into Athleisure:
1. Don’t be afraid to push the boundaries and play around with your wardrobe. Invest in pieces that mix function and fashion.
2. Don’t over accessorise. It only takes one piece to take your athleisure look from gym to street. A pair of mirrored sunglasses, a structured leather jacket, a shirt tied around the waist - anything that has a sleek, sporty feel.
3. When it comes to athleisure, it’s all about balance. Mix slouchy yoga pants with a cropped jacket; add a sporty jacket to a formal outfit; or slip into a pair of sneakers when heading out on a date.
4. Dress up your track pants with a leather biker jacket. It is a great look for travelling and casual days.
5. Experiment with layering-take a crisp white button down and pair it with a jogger and classic sneakers for a casual sportswear look (a la Justin Timberlake).
6. Feel free to experiment with your sweatshirt. Pair it with skinny joggers or skinny denim to carve out a solid look.
7. Pick up a cute embellished sweatshirt and throw it over a tailored pencil skirt. Ditch the heels for funky printed or embellished sneakers (they come with hidden wedges to give you height!)
