The fashion industry has faced a slowdown after demonetization, says Seematti designer silk maestro Beena Kannan. “Weavers and embroiders are finding it difficult to do their jobs due to lack of profit. All of these are genuine concerns in fashion industry. Yes, the industry has faced a slowdown,” she told Onmanorama during an interview.
Describing the hardships wedding market has been facing, she said. “Unlike Kerala, wedding purchases of two or three lakhs are normal in all other parts of the country. Keralites are not ready to shell out money, especially when there is a currency crisis,” she added.
Expressing her wholeheartedness to support the budding boutiques to survive through this tough time by supplying materials and designs for reference, she said “We are happy to serve as a reference point at this time.”
