Dr. Abubakkar’s colonial mansion at Kalpetta in Wayanad district has become the talk of the town for its classy features and incredible amenities. The house that stands in 15 cents has been built catering to the likes and preferences of the family members. The owner has three daughters; so he wanted four bedrooms in the house. It was the owner himself who suggested the colonial theme as he wanted his dream abode to look unique.
The perfect symmetry of the elevation is what grabs instant attention. The slanted roof on both sides looks exactly the same. Meanwhile, the eye-catching colour palette and the designer windows are some of the elements that play a pivotal role in attaining this symmetry. The car porch has been built separately so that it wouldn’t mar this design sequence. Truss roof has been installed over the flat roof for making the elevation symmetrical. Meanwhile, the area beneath the roof could be used as a multi-utility space. The compound wall too features the same color theme to complement the main structure.
Designed in 3000 sqft, this amazing abode has a car porch, sit out, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen with a work area, four bedrooms, upper hall, study area and a balcony.
The formal living area has been designed on the theme of the Arabian majlis which looks opulent. Moreover, this area is arranged in the sunken style, i.e. a few feet below the floor level of the house. Meanwhile, a sliding glass door ensures enough privacy here. From the formal living area one could enter the spacious hall where the dining area, family living space and the stairway have been arranged.
The double-height ceiling of the dining area helps in making this space look and feel incredibly vaster. The warm-toned hanging lights, meanwhile, grant a pleasant ambience to this area. The majestic dining table can easily accommodate up to eight guests. The folding glass door here opens to the yard. The family living area is cozy with comfortable couches and a TV unit too.
The pantry kitchen is compact and is smartly designed. A part of the nano white counter top could be used as a breakfast spot too. Stylish high chairs have been arranged here. Abubakker’s wife says that this feature helps her keep an eye on her kids when they are studying.
The bedrooms have been designed as per the likes of each family member. The kids’ bedroom is beautifully furnished with a bunk bed and attractive sky blue themed wallpaper. Storage areas, study space and attached bathrooms too have been arranged as part of the bedrooms.
The family credits architect Cindu for designing such a fabulous home that boasts of all the modern amenities in a 15 cents plot. “The most amazing fact about this house is that each space has been designed by strictly following the rules of the vastusastra. This ensures excellent cross ventilation and fills the interiors with positive vibes too. Moreover, this positive energy is reflected in the moods of the family members too. This project has given me great personal satisfaction,” notes Cindu.
