Those in home quarantine should strictly follow these guidelines

Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister K K Shylaja has said that people in home quarantine and their family members should strictly follow the guidelines issued by the health department. This need for caution was reiterated as a large number of people were returning to Kerala from other states and abroad.

Follow these guidelines

» People in quarantine should remain in a bath-attached room with no air-conditioner. The room should have proper ventilation.

» Elderly people should not come into contact with the person in quarantine or the articles used by him. People suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, and heart, kidney, chest and liver ailments, also should stay away from those in quarantine. It is also advisable that relatives with other ailments shift to another house.

» Healthy people in the age group of 18 to 50 should attend to those in quarantine.

» No visitors are allowed at home. Other members of the house can step out only with the permission of the medical officer of the primary health care centre.

» Do not leave the room even to have food. After having your meal, wash the utensils and leave it outside the room.

» Handle all your articles, including luggage, on your own.

» Other family members should not enter the room where the person is in quarantine.

» Even if mild symptoms are noted, contact the doctor of the primary healthcare centre over the phone.

» Do not step out of the house without the permission of the authorities even if it is for a medical need.

» Wear gloves and surgical masks when entering the room of the quarantined person.

» Do not touch the articles in the room such as table top, switch, and door knobs

» Do not look after other family members if attending to the needs of the person in quarantine

» Keep three buckets in the room of the quarantined person. Wash the clothes and towels in bleach solution.

» Used masks, pads and tissue should be burned

» Bury food articles and other garbage deep inside the ground
