Here are four ways by which you could protect yourself during an earthquake:
a) Get out of the building or room as soon as you feel the tremors or see the surroundings shaking.
b) If you are unable to rush out of your building, 'duck' under a desk or any other piece of sturdy furniture. This could protect you against heavy objects that are likely to fall on your body.
c) You could also sit against a wall with your back pushing the wall firmly. Lean forward and place your head between both your knees. Put your hands at the back of your head. This posture can protect your head and spine.
d) You also could stand directly below one of the door-frame in your house. Doorframes are, often, made very strong, or, would have an “RCC beam” running right above the frames. The strong structure, thus, would be able to protect you from the objects falling from above. But in doing so, remember to keep you arms away from the swaying doors.
