Rani and Veni with Derinlouis Menzez Thiruvananthapuram: When the two little sisters Rani and Veni waved goodbye to their friends in the Child Welfare Home, it was the end of an old chapter and the beginning of a new one.
From Thiruvananthapuram to New Zealand was going to be a journey from one culture and clime to another diametrically opposite. But the sisters had already taken to their new mother Derinlouis Menzez who had for the past five years been on the lookout for adopting two girls.
It’s after a gap of nine years that the Child Welfare Committee has given in two kids for overseas adoption. A music therapist, Derin will be a single mom to her two darlings. Ever since the desire to adopt two kids took hold of her, she had been scouting around for the right ones. She confided in her friend Elizabeth who tried her best to deter Derin from adopting kids from countries outside because of the innumerable legal hassles involved. But Derin stood firmly by her decision.
Finally, it was a Central Government agency which directed Derin to the State Child Welfare Committee, clearing the way for adoption. Ever since she zeroed in on Rani and Veni, Derin had been eagerly waiting for them to be hers.
It was a beaming Derin who cuddled the two sisters on Wednesday morning at the Child Welfare Committee and the little ones had already taken to their new mom.
The children were handed over to Derin by Child Welfare Committee secretary S.P.Deepak. Committee treasurer G. Radhakrishnan, executive committee member R.Raju and social worker C.M.Vinitha were also present.
Derin, with her children, flew out to New Zealand on Wednesday itself.
