The Indian army, after taking several hits from terrorists sneaking into the country through their bases in Pakistan, has stunned the world with its precision attack on launch pads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
The special forces made sorties into Myanmar territory five times in the last three years.
But the attacks to eliminate United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) and other such outfits of northeast was done with either Myanmar turning a blind eye or giving tacit approval.
But operations in the Poonch jungles was a different proposition.
There was the well trained and hostile Pakistan army, which was actively assisting the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists.
Further, the terrorists were fidayeen (suicide squads) who could blow up everyone around.
Once political clearance came from prime minister Narendra Modi, it was the operation commanders who went through the plan and executed it in the stealth of the night.
This daring operation by 100 commandos, backed by thousands of logistics, signals, helicopter cover and intelligence operatives, has changed the security doctrine of India.
The Indian army has become a counter striking force ready to operate inside enemy territory.
The operation, wrapped in secrecy and carried out in perfection means India, which has been facing a proxy war for 35 years, will now go all out to strike at the roots of terrorism.
There are reports that the terror groups have moved into crowded cities of Pakistan fearing further surgical strikes by the Indian army.
They are also wary of drones from across the border which have been used with devastating effect by the Central Intelligence Agency against Taliban in north-western Pakistan.
The success of the surgical operations has also boosted the morale of the army and paramilitary forces inside the Kashmir valley.
Interestingly the counterattack on the terrorists in retaliation for the Uri terror strikes has garnered political support across the spectrum.
Even the worst critics of Narendra Modi including the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party are supporting the military action.
The government also took the initiative to taken the opposition into confidence after the operation.
This is reflective of the new political spirit of accommodation, which helped the BJP-led government to get the contentious Goods and Services Tax bill pass the muster in the Rajya Sabha in August.
On the security front, vigilance is essential as the terrorists could regroup and unleash an attack on any vulnerable spot.
Kashmir, where curfew was lifted after three months, also needs a political healing touch.
