Is Senkumar tipped to be Governor? Former top cop says he has no clue

Senkumar

Thiruvananthapuram: T P Senkumar, who fought a legal battle with the Left Democratic Front government to win back his post as the chief of Kerala police, said that he met BJP president Amit Shah to lobby for central legislation to let devotees govern the affairs of Hindu temples including the Sabarimala shrine.

Senkumar was replaced by the LDF government as the state police chief as soon as it came to power in 2016 but the director general of police dragged the government all the way to the Supreme Court before getting another stint at the top. He retired as the police chief.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had then suggested that the officer had connections with the right-wing parties.

Senkumar’s meeting with the BJP chief sparked reports that he was tipped to be a governor. He told Manorama on Friday that he was not sure about his future career and no BJP leader had put out the feelers.

He said that he met Shah to pass on some information regarding the temples. He said that temples had to be managed by devotees, not atheists. The central government was empowered by the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution to legislate on matters related to temples. The centre should regulate the powers of the Devaswom boards through legislation, he said.

He also said that he had no immediate plans to go to Delhi. He would go to Hyderabad to give a lecture to IPS officers about the case he fought in the Supreme Court.
