Kochi: Actor Meera Jasmine on Saturday condemned the growing epidemic of violence against women in state. The actor was speaking at press conference here, in connection with the promotion of her upcoming movie “10 Kalpanakal”.

Rajeswari, the mother of slain law student Jisha, was also present at the press conference.

The perpetrators of rape crimes should be castrated, an angry Jasmine said. “Only if they realize the pain of their victims, will they ever stop such atrocities against women,” she said.

Jasmine plays the role of a police officer in the upcoming movie. The plot revolves around the notion that punishments given to culprits of rape and other atrocities against women in India are not sufficient. And indeed, we saw a Jasmine, who reacted just like her character in the movie.

Waiting for the day when Ammer ul will be hanged: Jisha's mother

Meanwhile the slain law student Jisha's mother Rajeshwari said that she was waiting for the day when her daughter's 'murderer' Ameer ul-Islam will be hanged.

“He just took few seconds to kill my daughter but I am not sure when the court proceedings will be over,” said Rajeshwari.

Jisha's mother also said that she rarely understood the court proceedings as everything was in English. “Ameer ul-Islam is now saying that he has not done anything. As there is enough proof from the DNA test, court should not believe what he is saying. Nobody offered any kind of financial support when myself and my daughter actually needed and there is no point in giving money to me now”, she added.

Rajeshwari said that the society never let her family live safely. Rajeshwari alleged that was she was recently hit by a bike in an attempted murder. “Even after complaining it to the police, we never got justice. These things happen with all the people in the lower strata of the society”, said Rajeshwari.

She was speaking to the media here with the cast and crew of the film 'Pathu Klapanakal'.
