Thiruvananthapuram: Senior CPM leader and former legislator K. Anirudhan passed away here Sunday night due to age-related ailments. He was 92. He breathed his last at the residence of his son A. Sampath, who is also a CPM leader and MP representing Attingal constituency.
The body will be kept at the residence till 11 am on Monday and later at CPM Thiruvananthapuram district committee office and VJT hall for the public to pay last respects. The cremation will be held at Santhi Kavadam at Thycaud at 4 pm.
Anirudhan, who played a crucial role in strengthening the communist party in Thiruvananthapuram district, was elected to Kerala Assembly in 1963 and 1965. In the 1967 Lok Sabha polls, he defeated former chief minister R Shankar from Chirayinkeezhu constituency.
Again he was elected to Assembly in 1979 and 1980. An active trade union leader, he had also served as the editor of two magazines -- Viswamekhala and Viswa Keralam -- published from Thiruvananthapuram.
