Pathanamthitta: The CPI, the second largest ally in the ruling LDF in Kerala, has suspended a senior leader from the party for insulting an MLA by referring to his caste name.

Manoj Charalel, CPI district assistant secretary, was suspended after he insulted Chittayam Gopakumar MLA in a telephonic conversation which went viral on social media.

The party district executive and district council unanimously took the decision to suspend Manoj, CPI district secretary A.P. Jayan said on Saturday.

Jayan said Manoj's explanation to the party over the incident was not satisfactory.

"The party's stance is that no one should be insulted on the basis caste discrimination. CPI is a party that protests against atrocities on dalits in the country. The party regrets the pain inflicted on the dalit communities by Manoj's statement," he said.
