Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan's analogy between government files and the common man's life was a touching one and well-received. However, the story of this elder woman tells us that the CM's message is yet to reach the ears it was supposed to.

Rajamma, a native of Arumanoor in Neyyattinkara, had to return empty-handed to her shack in the Lakshamveedu colony near Arumanoor market after waiting for hours in front of the CM's office here Monday.

The 80-year-old woman was spotted in front of the CM's office with a few documents in her hand and a walking stick. She had come to the CM's office seeking aid for necessary land for building a house.

"I don't have either land or house. My husband died 15 years ago and my two sons are patients," she told Manorama News in a breaking voice.

She was denied permission to enter the office despite seeking help from many, including officials and police personnel. Even as she continued her long wait, finance minister Thomas Isaac also passed her by. However, Rajamma could not even register her complaints with the officials concerned.

It will not be realistic to say that the CM should be able to attend each case personally. Nor could we expect people like Rajamma to be aware of the timings for the CM to meet the people.

However, it must be ensured that the grievances of people like Rajamma are heard by those concerned. Rajamma said she would be coming back to the CM's office again after five or six days, hoping that everything would be set right.
