Thiruvananthapuram: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a petition filed by CPM veteran V.S. Achuthanandan seeking a CBI probe into the infamous ice cream parlor case in which Muslim League leader P.K. Kunhalikutty is an accused.
The standing counsel, who represented the state government, told the court that the case was politically motivated and that there was no circumstances that called for a CBI probe in the case.
The apex court censured Achuthanandan for taking political rivalry to the court. Chief justice T.S. Thakur told him that he should not waste the court's time to settle personal scores.
Welcoming the court's decision, Kunhalikutty said that he is happy with the development.
Achuthanandan had approached the top court in 2013 seeking a CBI probe into the case registered on the basis of claims by K.A. Rauf, the estranged relative of then state minister P.K. Kunhalikutty that he had tried to influence witnesses in the ice cream parlor sex scandal case.
