Students and protesters continue their strike demanding that Lekshmi Nair be removed as principal.Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Law Academy, mired in controversy over allegations of nepotism and harassment against its principal Lekshmi Nair and management, is not affiliated to Kerala University, an advocate revealed Sunday.

» Advocate Vincent Panikulangara went to Supreme Court against Law Academy in 1982 over the membership of the then principal Narayanan Nair in Kerala University's syndicate.
» Panikulangara's case was that since the college was not affiliated Nair cannot represent it in the capacity of principal in the syndicate.
» The SC stated that the Law Academy was 'deemed to be affiliated' and allowed Narayanan Nair, father of Lekshmi Nair, to remain as a syndicate member
» This consideration was made for this specific purpose (syndicate membership as principal) only and hence it cannot be construed as an affiliated college
» The institute has not even applied for affiliation and hence there is no need to search for affiliation related records.
» The allegation has put a question mark on the eligibility of several top judges and advocates, who passed out from the Law Academy

Meanwhile, R.S. Sashikumar, a former KU syndicate member, said there was a record in the minutes of 1968 about the affiliation granted to Law Academy. However, files about the affiliation and the controversial land holdings were missing, he said.
The strike against Law Academy management demanding resignation of principal Lekshmi Nair continued on the19th day Sunday. The varsity syndicate had on Saturday passed a resolution barring Lekshmi Nair from exam-related responsibilities for five years.
