Ettumanoor: A Scotland Yard or an MI6 at Ettumanoor police station? Looks like it, going by the suave and hi-tech facilities at the station. The fact of the matter is that the Ettumanoor Police station now sports a state-of-the-art interrogation room modeled after the Scotland Yard. The second floor of the Janamaithri Station adjacent to the main block now has two rooms with all modern facilities to make policing a super-sleuthing business. While two rooms solely go for interrogation, the other part of the building has been turned into a center for self-defense where the women police force will undergo training.
Of the three rooms on the ground floor, one will go for counseling and legal help facilities, another for Janamaithri meetings and the third, for the police to stretch their legs.
The ultra-modern interrogation room has been partitioned into two separate blocks. The first section where the interrogation takes place is under total camera surveillance. All facial expressions, changes, and nuances on the face of the accused will be caught on camera. There are hidden microphones which record every word uttered. A laptop and a wireless device to give secret and silent instructions to the interrogating officer are also installed here.
High-tech police stationThe other part of the room records the audio and video of all the proceedings in the interrogation room. Officers watching the entire proceedings will never be visible to either the accused or the interrogating officer. Neither the questioning officer nor the accused will be able to see those watching them. All the questions will be laid out on the laptop. Top officials and other officers can watch the entire proceedings without being seen. The interrogating officer can also be given fresh points to question without the culprit ever being aware of it. Other officers from a distance of 150 meters can also give instructions to the interrogator in secret via wireless communication.
More hi-tech and advanced facilities are being thought of which will enable the police chief to give instructions to interrogators from his headquarters. The district police have also come up with a plan to purchase narco analysis equipment which will cost Rs 10 lakh.
The entire women police force of the district and those assigned to the district’s self-defense techniques under the Nirbhaya scheme will undergo training in self-defense and return to their respective stations by March 30. They are to be trained at the new center.
The training will be under the guidance of Vanitha Cell CI N.Philomina. The master trainers are senior civil police officers K.S.Priyamol (Vanitha Cell, Kottayam), G.C.Thulasi (Vaikom), Regimol (Kumarakom) and Subhardakutty (Ayarkunnam).
Once the police force completes its training, women from all walks can join in to be instructed, and school kids, during the summer holidays. Emphasis will be on self-defense techniques and legal awareness.
The women’s self-defense center and the interrogation room were inaugurated by district police chief N.Ramachandran.
A R Camp Asst Commandants G.Ashok Kumar and S.Suresh Kumar, DySPs Shajimon Joseph and K.L Sajeev, CI C.J.Martin, SI K.R. Prashanth Kumar and Vanitha cell CI N.Philomina were also present at the meeting held in connection with the inauguration.
Here’s three cheers to happy and hi-tech policing!
