Thiruvananthapuram: Was Lekshmi Nair really removed as the Law Academy's principal, as was promised by the academy management to the SFI?
The minutes of a management committee meeting that was handed over to the ADM on Friday, says she has neither been removed nor suspended as principal of the Kerala Law Academy Law College. Rather, the minutes say she has only been asked to temporarily step aside. What that really means is anybody's guess.
It is not immediately clear when exactly this meeting was held. The minutes were handed over following a demand from the agitating students.
So, was the SFI misleading the students and the general public when it talked of a deal to remove Lekshmi Nair as principal the academy? Some reports had said she would be made head of the academy's research center.
The other question is did the academy management willfully mislead the students' organization of the ruling CPM? Or were both party to a grand conspiracy to mislead the public and take the sting off an agitation that had left the CPM and the SFI with egg on their face?
It is significant here that the academy management had negotiated the so-called deal only with the SFI. The other student organizations are continuing their strike.
