Palakkad/Guwahati: A self-styled 'platoon commander' of NDFB-Songbijit faction was arrested from Kanjikode near here in a joint operation by Assam and Kerala police, an official said in Guwahati Wednesday.
On the basis of specific intelligence inputs, Assam police and their Kerala counterpart conducted a joint operation and arrested the Myanmar-trained insurgent, Karmeswar Basumatary alias Korme, from Kanjikode in Palakkad district about two days ago, the spokesman said.
Basumatary was Tuesday brought to Assam and produced in a court of Udalguri district Wednesday, he said.
The militant is the 34th batch Myanmar-trained cadre of the outfit and was 'platoon commander' for its 'Mazbat platoon'.
Basumatary was arrested under sections of Explosive Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the police added.
