Thiruvananathapuram: The State Pollution Control Board (PCB) has banned the sales and use of firecrackers whose sound level exceeds 125 decibel in connection with the Vishu festival.
Such firecrackers should not be used between 10 pm and 6 am. Firecrackers should not be busted on a radius of 100 metre of hospitals, education institutions and places of worship, which are considered to be silent zones.
Crackers should be avoided in congested areas too, the order says. The PCB took the decision based on orders by the Supreme Court and union ministry of environment and forests.
