Police reopen case against DYFI leader Siddique, who is accused of extortion

Kochi: Police have reopened a case registered against DYFI leader under Goonda act, causing embarrassment to the CPM.

The investigation has been initiated afresh against Karukapalli Siddique and his wife who were earlier remanded in a case related to extortion, showing a photo of Siddique posing with chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

According to the case filed by a bag manufacturer named Nissar Ahmed in 2012 Siddique had threatened the former by showing photographs of himself with the chief minister.

Nissar Ahmed alleged that the case against Siddique was covered up by the party and police. It was later found that there was some merit in Nissar’s complaint as a section of police force had covered up the case.

Nissar says that though the then deputy leader of opposition Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had directly given instructions to take action against Siddique, but was protected by local leaders of CPM.

Nissar Ahmed in his complaint to DCP Dr. Arul B. Balakrishan said that majority of police officers at the North Central stations were Siddique’s acquaintances. Nissar Ahmed personally met Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and lodged his complaint against Siddique.

Nissar Ahmed's complaint:

“Siddique entered the scene when there was a labor dispute in the institution which I started in Ernakulam North. Siddique was present at the CPM party office in North where I had gone to solve the issue. Siddique later approached me demanding donation for the party.

I gave Rs 5000 as donation and I also gave 100 bags which were meant for free distribution to school students. Siddique came again. This time he wanted computer for the school. I brought a computer for Rs 38,000 and gave it to Siddique but I found later that computer wasn’t given to the school.

Siddque with his pleasing manners got my trust. He introduced me to his wife whom he said was awaiting result of IAS exam. He told me his wife was a manager in a private bank and forced me to take policy. He then asked me to make him my business partner.

He started a shop from a room near my institution for a monthly rent of Rs 85,000. The inauguration function of the shop was attended by local leaders of the party and some policemen from North police station. Siddique forcibly took stock from my institution and threatened my staff. When I confronted him he also threatened me.

Siddique threatened me and took away the money I got from a chitty scheme. I had paid nearly two lakh rupees for the chitty. As per Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's I approached district party secretary P.V. Govindan with a complaint. He forwarded the complaint to North party office for further action.

I was asked to contact a local committee member of Kaloor local committee. When I contacted him, he said he was unable to take any action against Siddique. I approached Govindan again who asked me to file a police complaint.

I filed a complaint with DCP in 2012 with specific plea not to forward the case to North Police station where Siddique had influence. But the complaint was forwarded to North Police station. The police didn’t summon Siddique even once in the case. However, the CI summoned me to the station based on a complaint filed by Siddique against me. The CI forced me to sign on a blank paper.

I was forced to relocate to Mulanthuruthy after I was physically assaulted. I got courage to file complaint against Siddique when he was booked in case related to extortion in the name of Chief Minister.”
