Kochi: Sahna Salim, a native of Kechery in Thrissur, walked away with top honors at the Manoramaonline-Havells Best Chef Contest Season 4, a State-level cookery show meant for women to display their inherent talents in the culinary field.
As many as twenty participants from across the State took part in the grand finale of the competition held in connection with Onam celebrations.
Sahna emerged the ‘Pachakarani’ (cookery queen) for her innovative recipe ‘Mathanila Chicken Koottu’, a wonderful blend of chicken curry and pumpkin leaves.
T. S. Kalyani of Palluruthy, Kochi, won the second prize by preparing Kappa Masala, a Kerala-style tapioca masala dish. In the third place was Suchithra Sabith of Chottanikkara who prepared ‘Pacha Kasuvandi Aviyal, a delightful mix of vegetables and raw cashew nuts.
The prize distribution ceremony was inaugurated jointly by cine actor-cum-producer Vijay Babu, Havells India senior branch manager S. Subhash, and Manoramaonline deputy general manager (marketing) Boby Paul.
The competition received phenomenal response and over hundreds of recipe entries of delectable dishes.
From that huge pool, twenty contests were chosen for the grand finale held at the Radisson Blu Kochi.
The judges of the event were cookery expert Jeji John, and Varghese Thoppil, Executive Chef at Radisson Blu Kochi.
