Kozhikode: By the end of this month, you will be able to make use of a high-speed ship service to reach Kozhikode from Kochi and that too in four-and-a-half hours. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy made the announcement while inaugurating the primary works of Light Metro here on Friday.

The CM said that the service will begin by the end of March.

This hydrofoil ship service is aimed at both hassle-less travel and leisure. At present, a bus ride from Kochi to Kozhikode takes around 6 hours at least.

Speaking at the event, the CM said the Centre is yet to give its nod for the Light Metro project in Kozhikode. "Even for the Kochi Metro, the state did not await the Centre's approval before starting the related works," he added.

"We were able to complete Kochi Metro project in this fast pace because the related works were begun much earlier," Chandy said.

Minister E.K. Ebrahim Kunju said that as much as 25 per cent of the procedures for Light metro project has been completed.
