Street light Street light hanging from a lamppost in Kottayam: Photo with special arrangement

Kottayam: A street lamp hanging precariously from two loose wires from a lamp post is giving nightmares to pedestrians and the family living in a nearby house in a side road leading to Plantation-P&T road near the railway crossing at Kanjikkuzy here.

Family members say they have informed the Kerala State Electricity Board and the civic authorities, but nothing has been done so far. They say the power board authorities have expressed their inability to remove the lamp as it belongs to the civic body and they need to cooperate.

The heavy lamp fixture hanging by just two wires would make a perfect ad for cable makers but that is no solace for the people who use this route. The question now is who will take responsibility for replacing the lamp, or if a mishap occurs. It is not known for how long the lamp has been posing a danger to the public but it dutifully lights up at night.
