The marathon runner who finished fourth in race to civil service

Thiruvananthapuram: Social justice department director T V Anupama has made a reputation for her passion for work. So what else did she pursue other than civil service ambitions?

She was passionate about Bharatanatyam and marathon, she told a group of students attending a civil service camp organized by Akhila Kerala Balajana Sakhyam. She was interested in social work right from her college days. She had even started her own NGO. The varied experience has helped her a lot in cracking the Union Public Service Commission exam in the first attempt, she said.

Anupama also said she was a member of the Balajana Sakhyam in Ponnani in Malappuram district. She rues the fact that her other interests had suffered because of her job. The last time she performed Bharatanatyam was at the National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie in her training days. She had a memorable time organizing cultural events as an additional director of the tourism department.

Anupama may not be doing a jig or going on long-distance runs anymore but she has not parted with her other hobbies, reading and writing.

She said she had her eyes set firmly on civil service. Though she found employment after completing engineering, she pursued civil service with a firm conviction. She cracked the test in the first attempt with the fourth rank.

She said she always wanted to work with the social justice department. She would rather pursue 10 projects to fruition than launch a 100 projects, she added.
