Palakkad/Thrissur: A Youth Congress leader, who is the prime accused in murder of a youngster at a flat in Thrissur, has surrendered before a court here.
Rasheed, former Youth Congress Puthukad block president, had gone into hiding after the murder. Satheesan, a native of Shoranur, was found murdered at a flat at Panchickal in Ayyanthole on March 3.
The police had on Monday arrested former KPCC secretary M.R. Ramdas in connection with the case. Ramdas is accused of tampering with evidence and helping the accused.
The court on Tuesday remanded Ramdas to judicial custody in connection with the murder of the 28-year-old man ealier this month. First Class Judicial Magistrate in Thrissur remanded Ramdas to judicial custody for 14 days.
Ramdas was arrested Monday night in connection with the murder of Ratheesh alias Mani, hailing from Shoranur, at a flat in the city on March 3.
According to police, Rasheed, another Congress leader, his aide Krishnaprasad and Saswathi, a native of Guruvayur, beat Satheesh to death following a dispute at the flat. Ramdas had allegedly assisted in their escape.
A case had been registered against Ramdas under various sections of IPC, police added.
The investigation team got information that Ramdas had used his top political connections to help the accused.
Rasheed's lover Sashwathi and close aide Biju are among those who were arrested earlier in connection with the case.
