Jakarta: A 45-year-old Indonesian man choked to death during a chicken eating competition in capital Jakarta, the media reported on Saturday.
The competition, organised at one of the outlets of fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) by a third party on Friday, had three participants who raced to eat the fried chicken wings in the least amount of time, EFE news reported.
The victim - Freedi Djajadi - choked, drank water and, despite medical aid, died, according to police sources.
According to a statement released by KFC India on Monday, O2 Accion Dcc, the promotions company that organised the contest, has cancelled the event.
“As you know, this incident happened in Indonesia and not in India. We are incredibly saddened to hear of this tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with Freedi Djajadi's family. KFC Indonesia is in communication with local authorities to determine what exactly happened. In the meantime, O2 Accion Dcc, the promotions company that organized the event, has cancelled this contest,” read the KFC India statement.
