Subway Footlong

Subway lovers can finally be assured that the Footlong sandwiches they order will be as long as the name implies.

The US-based fast food giant has agreed that the bread it uses for Footlongs will be at least 12 inches long, as part of the settlement of a lawsuit filed against them.

Yes, Subway is making its subs bigger - all because of a photo that Australian teen Matt Corby posted on the company’s Facebook page years ago.

The image showed a Footlong sandwich next to a measuring tape, indicating the sub was only 11 inches long, with its caption reading “Subway pls respond”.

The photo went viral within days, garnering more than 130,000 likes and thousands of shares on Facebook.

An investigation by the New York Post found that four out of seven Footlongs purchased in New York "measured only 11 or 11.5 inches”.

Several people then joined the 'movement', expressing their outrage and disappointment. They complained that they were being cheated an inch out of their subs and also accused Subway of false advertising, which eventually led to a lawsuit and the aforementioned settlement.

Here's hoping the extra inch will help fill the plaintiffs up.
