Farmers Relief Forum (FRF), a farmers’ outfit in Wayanad, called for a ‘hartal’ by conscience in Wayanad on Tuesday in protest against the failure of the forest department and the state government to protect the farmers of the district.
The Forest Minister was talking to the media on the sidelines of the high-level meeting convened to discuss the failure of the forest dept in tracking Belur Makana and the alleged lack of inter-state coordination.
Around 3,000 residents gathered at the Gandhi Junction in Mananthavady town in protest, bringing the locality to a standstill.
The incident occurred while the elephant was under the observation of the Kerala Forest Department.
The total number of cheetahs at the KNP currently stands at 21 - six males, seven females and eight cubs.
Criticism has been directed at the Forest Department, alleging numerous violations during Mission Thanneer Komban.
"After reaching Bandipur in the night, it was decided to conduct an examination before releasing the jumbo back into the forests," the minister told reporters here.
The incident was captured by a Wayanad native, who was travelling with his family in a car.
A cage was set at the farm where the tiger had killed a cow the other day.
