Zica is designed in Britain and Italy. Photo: OnmanoramaAny new vehicle launch from Tata Motors makes news in this country. Tata is India’s one of the oldest business houses and has now become a global automaker by owning marquee brands such as Land Rover and Jaguar.
Brazilian bus body maker Marcopolo, Spanish luxury bus maker Hispano and the Daewoo truck manufacturing unit of Korea are all technically Indian today. Tata is once again in the headlines through its latest car Zica. This is a beautiful car that comes with latest technology and is yet affordable to the common man. We test drove the Zica on the scenic coastal roads of Goa, the favourite spot for media test drives.

The Zica will attract both first time car buyers and those looking for a second car alike. This car was designed in Britain and Italy and at Rs 3 lakh, the Zica gives even the entry level cars a run for their money especially in terms of features on offer. Interiors

Good quality plastics and premium fabric seats give the cabin an exotic look. Focus has been on practicality and the presence of 22 storage points, hooks within the cabin to hang shopping bags and a 240 litre boot vouch for it.
No other car in this segment comes with a Harman Kardon eight speaker music system and a navigation map. It also has Juke Car app that helps in pairing the mobile phone with the music system. In short, the Zica is a balanced package of style and technology.
Engines
Comes with 2 engine options - 1199cc Revtron Petrol (85 PS) and Revotorq 1047cc Diesel CRDI (70 PS). Photo: OnmanoramaThe car comes with two engine options. Both are three cylinder engines. The 1199 cc Revtron Petrol Engine delivers 85 PS while the Revotorq 1047 cc Diesel CRDI engine generates 70 PS of power. Both the engines are newly developed units.
Multidrive
Multidrive feature, which is usually seen in expensive cars, is a highlight of Zica. One can drive the car in the Eco mode to achieve higher fuel efficiency and can switch on the go to the other mode for a sportier response. In city mode one can manage with very few gear changes.
Safety
Zica comes with Airbags, ABS, EBD and corner stability control. Gear shift indicator will be useful for drivers.

Latest technology ensures that friction levels are the lowest. Irrespective of whether you are driving a petrol model or a diesel one, the characteristic clatter of the three-pot-unit does seep into the cabin.
The diesel model offers better drivability over the petrol and is more fuel efficient. Good handling, comfortable pedals and responsive steering add to the desirability of both the models. Tata Motors has not yet officially released the fuel efficiency figures but the indications are that the Diesel version will return around 30 kilometres per litre of fuel. The company is yet to announce Zica’s pricing but industry sources expect the car to be priced from Rs 3 lakh onwards.
