The LBS College of Engineering, Kasaragod, conducted the much-awaited inter-collegiate technical fest 'Siddhi 2k18' on October 6 and 7. Students from colleges all over Kerala attended the fest.

The event which was meant to be held last year was postponed until this year. Clearly, the waiting period paid off, since the excitement about the event built up over the months and was palpable on the campus. Young geniuses from all the engineering branches displayed their extraordinary flair in crafting the perfect models, showcasing their engineering and craft skills. The students took it as a challenge and each department held their own set of events, complete with names and logos designed by the students themselves.

The civil engineering department put their heart and soul to work on ‘Srishti’, which blended unique talents to showcase various architectural models in their exhibition. From the Gateway of India to the Eiffel Tower, gorgeous still-models adorned the otherwise gloomy classrooms.

The students also hand-built a bamboo shed which hosted a food court, where wide arrays of local delicacies were sold for reasonable prices.

The Electronics and Communication department stole hearts with its set of events under the banner 'Eximius'. 'Quest Crony', a contest held by them, saw the participation of 90 youngsters divided into teams of 10. Teams comprised of students from various branches and years, uniting to race against the other teams to complete tasks and gain the maximum points. Meanwhile, 'Gnista' the fete by Electrical Engineering Department conducted a similar contest, but one involving circuits and breadboards. A quiz competition was also held by them.

'Expressa', sub-event of 'Aarohan', was held by the Computer Science department. It witnessed lots of students trying to express their hidden talents, ranging from singing to dancing to drawing and even gaming. While the audience had a memorable time oohing and aahing at their friends who suddenly started springing forth with their secret skills, the judges must have had a miserable time trying to pick the winners.

The 'Autocrank' automobile show

The event that won the most hearts was the automobile show, hosted by 'La Maquina', the Department of Mechanical Engineering students. The roar of bike engines and modified automobiles shook the paths of the campus. Vehicle owners from all over the state found it a prime opportunity to flaunt their handsome beasts. Rows of colourful, eye-catching cars, stretching the vast ground of LBS College were a pleasurable sight indeed.

The events extended on towards the night, with cultural programmes on the first night and dance-jockeys rocking the audience on the second. Unlike Teranis 2k17 held last year by the Computer Science Department, Siddhi brought all the departments and branches unanimously together, uniting them under the common thread of being an ‘LBSian’. Students had a wonderful time — away from the academic pressures — honing their creative side and mingling with others to make Siddhi a successful event.
