Poonjar twins get PhD in Physical Education from MG University

Kuravilangad: A family in Poonjar in Kottayam district has achieved a rare feat. Its members now are PhD holders in the same subject — Physical Education. The latest to become a Doctor of Philosophy in the multifaceted family are twins Sunil Thomas and Satheesh Thomas. The brothers secured PhD in Physical Education from the Mahatma Gandhi University.

Sunil is an Assistant Professor at the St Thomas College of Teacher Education at Pala. Meanwhile, his twin brother Satheesh, who is also an NCC officer, works as an Assistant Professor at the Deva Matha College, Kuravilangad.

Interestingly, their sister Sini, who is also a teacher, is already a PhD holder in Physical Education from the University of Calicut.

The twins, who are former athletes, act as state officials in kabadi, athletics, volleyball and netball competitions. Besides, they are international referees of the roll ball game.

Sunil is a member of the international technical coordination committee of the Roll Ball Federation of India.

Satheesh is the chairman of the technical committee of the Kerala Netball Association and district secretary of the Roll Ball Association. He is also the Joint Secretary of the national organisation of the NCC officers.
