Kochi: Here's some happy news for movie buffs in Kerala - film producers say existing Malayalam movies will not be pulled from the theaters this Christmas. However, there will not be any new Malayalam releases this holiday season.
On Wednesday, it was reported that Malayalam movies running in theaters including Mohanlal-starrer Pulimurugan and Nadhirshah directorial Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan will be pulled from the theaters. However, the producers took a U-turn Thursday as they feared this decision will only help non-Malayalam movies. However, a final decision will be made only by Monday.
The release of new Malayalam flicks was stalled due to a standoff between theater owners and film producers & distributors, after the latter demanded a half of the theater collections as commission.
Among the films affected are Mohanlal-starrer Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, Dulquer Salmaan's Jomonte Suvisheshangal, Prithviraj's Ezra and Jayasurya's Fukri.
Meanwhile, theater owners said Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal and Vishal's Kaththi Sandai will hit the screens Friday.
