The central government's decision to scrap Rs 500, Rs 1,000 notes has hit the Malayalam movie industry too. With theaters across Kerala expressing concern that people may not come to watch movies as there's scarcity of Rs 100 notes, two Malayalam films, which were set to hit screens on November 11, have postponed their release.
Makers of Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan, directed by Nadhirshah and produced by actor Dileep, and Ore Mukham, directed by debutant Sajith Jaganathan have decided not to release their movies Friday.
Both the movies will now be releasing on November 18.
At the same time, there is another Malayalam movie making its release today - Mundrothuruth (Munroe Island), directed by Manu P.S. and starring Indrans in the lead role. The movie is being brought to the theaters by director-producer Aashiq Abu.
Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan has Vishnu Unnikrishnan in the lead role while Dhyan Sreenivasan appears as the protagonist in Ore Mukahm.
Theater owners are also complaining of not having enough currency notes of small denominations with them, forcing the producers of the films to push their release date.
However, two Tamil films will make it to the big screen Friday – the much-awaited Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada, starring Simbu and Manjima Mohan and directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Meenkuzhambbum Manppanayum, which will mark Kalidas Jayaram's debut as a hero.
