Actress Lisa Haydon, who recently married UK-based entrepreneur Dino Lalvani, has posted a series of tweets making it clear that her father-in-law, Gulu Lalvani, is not Pakistani, as claimed in a report that appeared in a publication.
The daily published a feature on cross-border marriages and called Lisa’s new family ‘Pakistanis’ although they are Indians.
Binatone founder Gulu Lalvani was born in Karachi and left during Partition and became an Indian citizen. He is now a British subject.
She wrote: "My husband is Indian. My father-in-law, Gulu Lalvani, was born in pre-partition India and was thrown out of what is today called Pakistan. To call someone, who has gone through the struggles of partition, non-Indian is absurd." (sic.)
