It's an all-out Biju Menon fare. After a bit of initial hiccup, the film soars up and then wafts and swirls though to the end. An intriguing plot, the film Swarna Kaduva is a satirical take replete with deadpan humor maneuvered by Biju Menon, slapstick provided by sidekicks and emotional expressions lent by the whole support cast. Swarna Kaduva, directed by Jose Thomas, is definitely a captivating and engaging narrative, but never a poignant one.

Rini Iype Mattummel (Biju Menon) is a happy-go-lucky chronic bachelor who bails out his business godfather Lolappan (Innocent). In the process, he throws conventions and values to the winds. He also amasses wealth on the sly and stealth to invent his own fiefdom.

Playing Rini's Man Friday, Joju (Hareesh Perumanna) follows him everywhere with his tomfoolery. Rini's romantic interludes with Lovely (Iniya) is curious for its out-of-the-ordinary nature. However, the episodes remain shallow as their dramatic conclusion fails to pitch on the right spot.

The plot loses heat for trivializing serious matters and worse, Rini is close to several recent incarnations of Mamachan the character played by Biju Menon in the surprise hit Vellimoonga. Yet, Rini manages keep the viewers engaged. The plot twists and turns with the whirlwind of events ricocheting from one mind-game to another. Iniya too essays a stunningly vigorous performance within the limited frame allotted to her.

Scripted by Babu Janardhanan the tale leaves no space for the viewers to retire and complain. The whole sequences are coherent and all members of the acting department have come up with stellar performances. Poojitha Menon, Suresh Krishna, Baiju, Sudheer Karamana and Kottayam Nazeer do deserve a special mention. Though Ratheesh Vegha's music fails to give the magical touch to his tracks, the songs get blend seamlessly with the narrative.

The film veers into unconvincing track at times, but the whole course ensures there is enough room to chuckle heartily and intermittently. Also, the plot wears semblance of a serious story line towards the end. Anyway, it's time Biju Menon took a break from playing the quick-witted chronic bachelor with a straight face to the world around him.
