Star kids following in the footsteps of their parents is nothing new in the film industry. Hence, when Jagan Shaji Kailas, son of director Shaji Kailas and actor Annie, wielded the microphone for Bandam at 18, not many eyebrows were raised.
Now, a year after the release of his critically acclaimed short film, Jagan is back with a music video titled Kari, featuring popular band Masala Coffee. Supposedly the first stunt music video in Malayalam, Kari was launched by superstar Mohanlal through his Facebook page.
Ahaana Krishnakumar of Njan Steve Lopez fame is paired opposite Fahim Safar in this action-packed romance.
As the title suggests, Kari represents the she-demon unleashed by a woman when she gets angry. It also questions the patriarchal concept that a woman should always tolerate her man’s temper tantrums. Kari reinstates the idea of gender equality even in fight scenes; neither of the protagonists are winning or losing.
While Ahaana looks like a wounded tigress in the action sequences, Fahim seems perfect as the irritating egoistic boyfriend, who finally realizes that ‘hell hath no fury like a woman scorned’.
Although markedly similar to Shaji Kailas’ camera angles, the fight scenes in the video are power-packed and realistic. Jagan, who has assisted Nithin Ranji Panicker in Kasaba, is clearly not a greenhorn – Kari underlines that.
The launch vehicle of Kari is Pepper Media’s new music channel, 'Karikkin Vellam'. A technology-driven digital media company, Pepper Media is one of the largest independent online video production and distribution hub in India.
“Our aim is to be an independent platform where content creators, celebrities and brands can come together and create compelling content,” says Radhakrishnan Ramachandran, founder and CEO of Pepper Media.
A few months back, Pepper Media had created a quite a buzz on the Internet with its music album 'I’m a Mallu', which was touted as the ‘Mallu anthem’ across various social media platforms.
