A band that presented songs of Malayalam music director, Johnson, on stage became popular because of their quick numbers and unique music. The name of the band itself is unique - Thaikkudam Bridge and it introduced the band culture, which Keralites were not exposed to.
Now, one of them has become a movie star and has sung in many films as well. Siddharth Menon had made his debut in the world of films through Rockstar. In a candid chat with the singer turned actor:
As debut actor
I do not think I have changed because I have started acting in films. It was a nice experience working with V K Prakash and I could experience the unique feeling of acting in films. While acting was not a problem, dubbing was and I could complete it only in 15 days. I was particular that whatever I did was good.
The initial responses
I grew up in Mumbai and am not well-versed in Malayalam. Many of my friends wanted to know how I acted in a Malayalam film. The reaction of my parents was very encouraging. They could not believe that I could perform so well. I was happy to see them happy and am relieved that many lauded my efforts. Many say I have changed physically. We can experiment only on ourselves. It feels nice.
'Many say I have changed physically', feels Siddarth MenonMusic or acting
My way is music and it has helped me reach so far. I value music very much and would do films if given a chance. I would love to dedicate 100 per cent of my efforts in whatever I do.
In the New Year, I would like to focus on the growth of Thaikkudam Bridge and would like to take it to international standards. I am happy that ‘Navarasam,’ an album, has been received well. The album captures the ethos of India in nine songs, in Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil and it is an eclectic mix of various Indian music genres. We involved Bollywood greats (Gajanan Mitke and Piyush Kapoor) with great hopes. It is the culmination of one year of effort by the band.
A still from the movie 'Rockstar'We started by singing songs of Johnson because in Kerala, there was no band culture and film songs were popular. We became popular by that move and people started to recognise us. We took the route of reaching the mainstream by starting with film songs, and that clicked.
I do not have any films on the anvil. I will do them if given a chance.
